4 Card Frenzy

About

Four Card Frenzy was requested by a member of the RBG Player Community and, as always, I was more than happy to figure the game out and add it to the app. Wow! This game is pretty cool. It's extremely similar to Crazy 4 Poker, but there are some twists and turns including a Bad Beat aspect.

How To Play

Placing Wagers

To start the game, the Player is required to place both an Ante and an Odds wager and these wagers must be the same amount. To place these wagers, simply tap on of the spots to increment the wager by the default Ante amount that is set in Preferences. These wagers may be from $5 - $500. To reset a wager, simply press and hold the spot for a moment. Additionally, incrementing the wager passed the maximum will also reset it.

There are two additional, optional bonus wagers that may be placed as well: the Four Card Bonus and the Prime Bonus. The Four Card Bonus pays if the Player has a qualified 4-card hand. The Prime Bonus pays if the Player has four or five cards of the same color. These two bonuses may be wagered between $5 - $100 and will increment by the default amount that is set in Preferences for the Bonus Wager amount.

Starting the Game

Once the Player has placed the required Ante & Odds wagers and either or both of the optional bonus wagers, the Deal button becomes enabled. When Deal is pressed, both the Player and the Dealer will each receive 5 cards from which each will make their best 4-card poker hand.

Please refer to the Poker Hand reference from the game menu for the ranks and order of the hands that can be made. It's worth noting that, like other four card poker variants, Four of a Kind beats a Straight Flush and Three of a Kind beats a Flush.

Playing the Hand

After the cards have been dealt, the Player must decide whether to play the hand or to fold the hand. In order to play the hand, the Player will discard one of his five cards by tapping on it. This will enable the Raise button and allow the Player to make his final wager. This wager can be 1x, 2x, or 3x the initial Ante if the Player has at least a Pair of Aces. For all other hands, the Raise wager is limited to 1x the Ante.

If the Player can only wager 1x the Ante, as soon as the Raise wager has been made, the round will end, the hands will be read, and a winner will be declared. Likewise, if the Player is allowed to wager 3x the Ante and does so, the round will end. In cases where a wager of 1x or 2x the Ante is being made, the Deal button must be pressed in order to complete the round.

If the Player is not happy with his 5 cards, he may fold the hand and forfeit his Ante and Odds wagers. Any wagers that were made for the Four Card Bonus and the Prime Bonus will still play and the Player will be paid according to the Pay Table that is available in these instructions and by tapping on the logo on the gameboard.

Scoring the Hand

In Four Card Frenzy, the Dealer is required to have at least a King-high hand in order to open or "qualify". If the Dealer does not qualify, the Player's Ante wager is refunded and the rest of the hand is played out to determine a winner.

The following rules apply to how the Ante, Odds, and Raise wagers are paid. The criteria includes whether or not the Dealer qualified, who won the hand, and the rank of the Player's 4-Card poker hand.

Ante Wager

If the Dealer does not qualify with at least a King-high hand, the Ante is immediately refunded. When the Dealer does qualify, the Ante is paid if the Player wins the hand, it is lost if the Dealer wins the hand, and it pushes in the case of a tied hand.

Raise Wager

If the Dealer does not qualify with at least a King-high hand, the Raise wager wins. When the Dealer does qualify, the Raise is paid if the Player wins the hand and it is lost if the Dealer wins the hand. In the case of a tied hand, this wager Pushes.

Odds Wager

The Odds Wager introduces a bit of a twist in that this wager is not affected by whether or not the Dealer qualifies and it will also serve up some Bad Beat odds if the Player loses to the Dealer for what would normally be considered a safe hand.

If the Player has a Straight or higher, the Odds wager will be paid. If the Player loses the hand, the odds will be paid as a Bad Beat and the payout will be higher than it would have been if the Player had won the hand.

If the Player wins the hand or the hand ends in a Push, but the Player's hand is lower than a Straight, the Odds bet Pushes.

If the Player loses the hand with less than a Straight, the Odds bet loses.

Quick Replay

After the hand has ended, if the Player presses the Deal button, the same Ante, Odds, Four Card Bonus, and Prime Bonus wagers will be placed and new cards will be dealt.

If the Player does not want to repeat the last set of wagers, play will resume after new wagers have been made and the Deal button has been pressed.
