Wild Five Poker

(a.k.a Poker with a Joker)

About

Wild Five Poker is a poker-based game that is played "heads up" against the House. In this game, both the Dealer and Player receive five cards from which they will make a standard poker hand. The game is played using a standard 52-card deck and a single, fully-wild Joker. It was added to Riverboat Gambler in response to a request from Jay.

How To Play

To start a hand, the Player must place an equal wager for the Ante and Bonus bets. These wagers may be between the minimum of $5 and the maximum of $500. Additionally, the Player can place optional wagers for the Wild 5 and Wild 7 Bonuses. Once all wagers have been placed, the Player will press the Deal button and play will begin.

Wagers are placed by tapping on wager spots on the table. For all wagers, once the maximum, allowable amount has been reached, an additional tap will reset the wager amount to zero. A wager can also be reset by pressing a spot and holding for a brief moment.

When the Deal button has been pressed, both the Dealer and Player will receive their own five cards. Additionally, two Community Cards will be dealt face down. These cards will become optional for use based on how the Player decides to proceed.

Acting After the Deal

After the Player has reviewed her cards, she will need to decide to Play the hand or to Fold. If the Player opts to Fold the hand, the game ends and the initial Ante and Bonus wagers are forfeited. If the Player had wagers on the optional Wild 5 and Wild 7 bonuses, those bets will be paid should the Player make qualifying hands.

Note: It is unlikely that a Player would Fold and then successfully qualify for one of the optional bonus wagers.

If the Player decides to stay in the hand, she will place a Play wager that is 1x, 2x, or 3x her initial Ante wager. Then, the Player must decide to Play her initial five cards OR to discard one of those five cards cards and then use the combination of her four remaining cards with the two, as of yet unrevealed Community Cards, to form a standard 5-card poker hand.

If the Player decides to play her initial five cards (as in the case of a pat hand), she need only place the desired wager and press the Deal button. This will end the round, the hands will be compared, and a winner will be declared.

If the Player decides to use the Community Cards to help to form a hand, she will discard one of her five cards by tapping that card. Then, she will place the desired wager and press the Deal button. This will end the round, the hands will be compared, and a winner will be declared.

Dealer Rules

The Dealer follows a specific set of rules in deciding how to play his hand. Those rules are:

  1. If the dealer has a pat five-card hand (Straight, Flush, Full House, Straight Flush, Royal Flush, or Five of a Kind), then he shall stand.
  2. If the dealer has a Two Pair, Three of a Kind, or Four of a Kind, then he shall discard the lowest singleton if it is lower than a Jack.
  3. If the dealer has four to a Flush or an outside Straight, then the dealer shall discard the fifth card. If the dealer has both of these hands, then he shall keep the four to a Flush.
  4. Otherwise, if the dealer has a Pair or five singletons, then he shall discard the lowest singleton.

Declaring the Winner

In Wild 5 Poker, the Dealers hand must rank as at least a Pair. If the hand ranks lower than a Pair, the Dealer has not qualified and the Players Ante will be refunded before the hands are read.

If the Players hand ranks higher than does the Dealers hand, the Player wins the hand and will be paid in accordance with the pay table that can be found in these instructions or by tapping the logo on the game board.

If both Player and Dealer have the same ranked hand, the hands are considered a Push and the Ante, Bonus, and Play wagers will be refunded.

If the Player hand ranks lower than the Dealers hand, the Player will lose the Ante, Bonus, and Play wagers.

Wins from any optional bonus wagers will still be paid when the Player loses the round or the hands push as a result of a tie.

Wild 5 Bonus

The Wild 5 Bonus is an optional wager that may be between the minimum of $5 and the maximum of $100. It is paid if the Players original five cards make a qualified hand per the corresponding pay table. This wager is paid regardless of who wins the main hand.

Wild 7 Bonus

The Wild 7 Bonus is an optional wager of $1. It is paid if the best hand that can be made from the Players original five cards and the two Community Cards is qualified per the corresponding pay table. In a real casino, this wager typically pays against a progressive jackpot. This wager is paid regardless of who wins the main hand.

Quick Replay

After the hand has ended, if the Player presses the Deal button, the same Bets will be placed and new cards will be dealt. If the Player does not want to repeat the last wagers, play will resume after new wagers have been made and the Deal button has been pressed.
