Pai Gow Poker

About

The object of Pai Gow Poker is for the Player to use seven cards to create two poker hands, a 5-card hand and a 2-card hand. The 5-card hand's rank must exceed that of the 2-card hand. These hands will be played against two corresponding hands that the Dealer will build from his seven cards.

If both Player hands beat the Dealer hands, the Player wins the round.

If the Dealer's hands beat those of the Player, the Player loses.

If the Player and the Dealer each win one of the hands, the round is a Push (tie).

NOTE: if the Player wins the round he is paid even money for his Pai Gow Wager less a 5% commission that is paid to the House.

How To Play

How To Play

Pai Gow is played with a normal 52-card deck plus a single Joker. The Joker is semi-wild meaning that it may be used as an Ace or used to complete a straight, a flush, or a straight flush. There are two types of wagers that can be made in Pai Gow. The Ante wager is required and will be paid even money, less a 5% commission to the House, if the Player wins the round. The optional Bonus wager is paid if the Player can make any of the qualifying hands that are described in the Payout Table. The optional Bonus wager is paid based on the Player's best possible hand from all seven of his cards regardless of whether or not the round is won or lost. The Bonus wager may be between $5 and $100.

Once an Ante wager between $5 and $1000 has been placed, the Deal button will become enabled. When this button is pressed, both the Dealer and the Player will be dealt 7 cards. At this point, the Player has two options. He may make his own two hands or he may opt to play his cards by the same rules that govern the Dealer. Those rules are outlined below.

To play his own cards, the Player needs to define his Low Hand. This is accomplished by moving two of the seven cards to the Low Hand spaces on the board. Cards are moved by tapping on them and then tapping on either of the two placeholders for the Low Hand. To remove a card from the Low Hand, simply press that card and hold for a moment. When the Low Hand has been finalized, the Play button will become enabled. Pressing the Play button will finalize the Player's hand and a winner will be determined.

Playing the House Way

The Dealer plays his cards based on specific guidelines. If the Player opts to Play The House Way by pressing the corresponding button, his hands will be determined using the same guidelines. Those guidelines are:

  1. No Pair (High Card): Place the highest card in the High Hand and the next two highest cards in the Low Hand.

  2. One Pair: Place the pair in the High Hand and the next two highest cards in the Low Hand.

  3. Two Pairs: Use the following classifications to determine how to play Two Pairs:

  4.  2s through 6s: Low Pair
  5.  7s through 10s: Medium Pair
  6.  Jacks through Kings: High Pair

  7. Two Low Pairs OR Low Pair & Medium Pair: Split unless holding a king or better, then play Two Pairs in the High Hand.

  8. Low Pair & High Pair OR Two Medium Pairs: Split unless holding an ace, then play Two Pairs in the High Hand.

  9. Medium Pair & High Pair OR Two High Pairs: Always split.

  10. Pair of Aces & any other pair: Always split.

  11. Three Pairs: Always play the highest pair in the Low Hand and the remaining Two Pairs in the High Hand.

  12. Three of a Kind: Always play Three of a Kind in the High Hand unless they are aces, then play a pair of aces in the High Hand and one ace in the Low Hand.

  13. Straights, Flushes, Straight Flushes, & Royal Flushes:

  14. With no pair: When choosing whether to play a straight, flush or straight flush play the category which will allow the highest two cards in the Low Hand.

  15. With 6th or 7th card: Play the lower straight or flush in the High Hand and place the highest cards in the Low Hand.

  16. With One Pair OR Two Pairs: Play a pair in the Low Hand only if a straight, flush, or straight flush can be played in the High Hand. In the case of Two Pairs, the Two Pairs rule shall apply.

  17. With Three of a Kind: Play the pair in the Low Hand.

  18. Full House: Always split with the pair played in the Low Hand unless that pair is twos and you have an ace and a king to play in the Low Hand.

  19. Full House with Three of a Kind & Two Pairs: Play the highest pair in the Low Hand and the Full House in the High Hand.

  20. Full House with Three of a Kind twice: Always play the highest pair in the Low Hand.

  21. Four of a Kind: Play according to the rank of the cards in the Four of a Kind:

  22. 2s through 6s: Always keep together and play in the High Hand.

  23. 7s through 10s: Split unless a king or better can be played in the Low Hand.

  24. Jacks through Kings: Split unless an ace can be played in the Low Hand.

  25. Aces: Always split: A pair of Aces in the Low Hand and a pair of Aces in the High Hand.

  26. Four of a Kind & One Pair: Play the pair in the Low Hand.

  27. Four of a Kind & Three of a Kind: Play a pair in the Low Hand from the Three of a Kind and play the Four of a Kind in the High Hand.

  28. Five Aces: Split the aces and play three aces in the High Hand and two aces in the Low Hand unless you have a pair of kings that can be played in the Low Hand.

Determining a Winner

Once the Player's hands have been decided, a winner is determined by comparing the Player's Low Hand to the Dealer's Low Hand and comparing the Player's High Hand to the Dealer's High Hand.

If both of the Player's hands beat both of the Dealer's hands, the Player wins the round.

If both of the Dealer's hands beat both of the Player's hands, the Player loses the rounds.

In cases where both the Player and the Dealer each win a hand, the round ends in a Push (tie).

NOTE: Aboard The Riverboat Gambler, if a Player's hand matches the Dealer's hand, the hand is won by the Dealer. Also, while some casinos consider "The Wheel" (A2345) to be the second highest possible straight, Riverboat Gambler does not. As in other poker games, The Wheel is ranked as the lowest possible straight.

Winning the Bonuses

Regardless of whether the Player wins the hand, a Bonus wager that was made will be paid if a qualifying hand can be made from the Player's seven cards. Qualifying hands can be found in the Payout Table that is available in these instructions and by tapping the logo on the gameboard.

Quick Replay

After a hand completes, if the Player presses the Deal button, a new hand will be dealt and the same Ante and Bonus wager amounts from the preceding hand will be made.

If the Player does not want to repeat the last set of wagers, play will resume after the Player has adjusted the wagers and pressed the Deal button.
